Günter

Documentary

Günter is a documentary film about one man's mission to subvert the system and give a little bit of freedom to the citizens of the German Democratic Republic during the Cold War. We meet Günter, an 80 year-old retired Berliner and former licensed telecommunications technician who allowed the transmission of the state enemy into his fellow citizens' living rooms. The film reveals the influence telecommunications technicians had on state media policy and the extent to which they witnessed the erosion of socialism, offering a reappraisal of an important aspect of GDR media policy and the desire for pluralism.
